This is a very deep pool in a very clear stream. It's well-known for its brookies, but I neither saw nor caught any in this inviting pool. I drove a few miles upstream and ran into the expected number of eager little fish.
This school of young-of-the-year brook trout was basically trapped in a pool in a remarkable little brook trout stream stricken by drought. The adult trout population seems to have been wiped out by the drought and a previous flood, but the young trout are as thick as minnows.
The picture is taken from above water with a polarizing filter and a telephoto zoom lens. There is
one other picture of them.

A 4 inch brookie hides from the camera behind a rock under a cut bank.
I was able to photograph these young yearling brook trout from a distance in the crystal clear water of a small spring. When I tried to get closer, they all hid in the lush vegetation.

Two young of the year brook trout hide in a little spring hole in a remote, crystal-clear small stream.
Well, this is one way to make 'em pose... keep them on the line!
This one settled next to the camera pretty nicely as soon as I let off the tension.
