Arctopsyche grandis (Great Gray Spotted Sedge) Caddisfly LarvaArctopsyche grandis (Great Gray Spotted Sedge) Caddisfly Larva View 14 PicturesAt first I had trouble believing this giant Hydropsychidae larva was actually a member of its family, because of the size. Rhyacophila (Green Sedges) Caddisfly PupaRhyacophila (Green Sedges) Caddisfly Pupa View 2 PicturesEven though I already have pictures of a Rhyacophila pupa in its cocoon, I took this one and then tried to keep the pupa alive, hoping to photograph it in several stages of development. That didn't work out; it seems to have died without changing much. Oh well.

Hydropsychidae Caddisfly AdultHydropsychidae Caddisfly Adult View 2 PicturesThese specimens are either Cheumatopsyche or Hydropsyche. They escaped before I could catch them.I suspect, based on size, they are Hydropsyche, they are about 1/4 inch in length. Both H. occidentalis and H. californica are common in the Touchet River.

Male Hydropsyche (Spotted Sedges) Caddisfly AdultMale Hydropsyche (Spotted Sedges) Caddisfly Adult View 8 PicturesThis species was really common along the Henry's Fork at the end of July. I photographed it along with a female that appears to be the same species, and another male of the same genus but a seemingly different, less common (on this day) species.
